I'm running

By John Labriola - You may have heard I'm running for Inverness City Council against incumbent Councilwoman Jacquie Hepfer in this November's election. The Chronicle called me on Tuesday to ask me why.

First of all, I ran in 2022 and came within 40 votes of victory in that race, so I believe I have a pretty good shot of winning this time. I've also been distributing pro-life literature against pro-abortion Amendment 4, and as long as I'm going door to door to educate voters about that, it makes sense to run for Council again.

Second, in a 70 percent conservative county, I believe our leaders should be willing to stand for conservative principles like opposition to abortion by voting for a resolution to condemn Amendment 4, as the Collier County Commission, the Gilchrist County Commission and the Trenton City Commission have already done. What exactly are they afraid of? If elected, I would also support a resolution declaring Inverness a Sanctuary for the Unborn and ban abortion clinics.

Third, the City of Inverness has a seat on the seven-member Library Governing Body, which appoints members of the nine-member Library Advisory Board (LAB). Now that we know that there's LGBT porn in our libraries' children's sections, we need to make sure the LAB is made up of bold conservative who are willing to fight to make the needed changes to our library system's book purchasing procedures to keep out the smut. If elected to the council, I will request the city's seat on the Library Governing Body.

Fourth, Jacquie Hepfer currently sits on the county's Tourism Development Council. In January 2023, she made the motion to approve a $55,000 Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI) advertising campaign to promote more LGBT and less white, Christian, family-oriented tourism in Citrus County. The unpopular plan eventually died in the County Commission, but her willingness to foist such far-left agendas on the county suggests an alarming level of tone-deafness at best. Although the DEI plan failed, the county is still spending $5,000 a year in hotel bed taxes on ads in the homosexual travel magazine OutCoast to market Citrus County as an LGBT-friendly destination for homosexuals and transgenders. I would end that.

Fifth, I believe Citrus County and Inverness need to hit the brakes on overdevelopment. Developers have a right to build on their property, but we shouldn't be bending over backwards to give them everything they want. I would oppose any efforts to increase residential densities beyond what our Master Plan allows.

Those are the reasons I told the Chronicle I'm running. If you agree, please feel free to donate to my campaign by clicking the donate button below. Thank you and God bless!
