By John Labriola - Citrus County decided its most important local races in the August primary, but the county could play a decisive role in this November's election in determining who wins the tight gubernatorial race between Republican Byron Donalds and Democrat David Jolly, as well as other close statewide races.
While Republicans are likely to maintain comfortable majorities in both chambers of the State Legislature, the governor wields substantial executive power, and Jolly could reverse many of the conservative reforms of Gov. Ron DeSantis, even without legislative support.
Jolly would most likely appoint liberal justices to the Florida Supreme Court, who could overturn several laws recently upheld by the court, including the Heartbeat Protection Act, which protects the lives of unborn children after six weeks in the womb. He also would likely appoint a liberal Board of Education, which could reverse many recent decisions, including requiring districts to remove pornographic materials from school libraries; and a liberal Surgeon General, who could strip parental rights regarding the vaccinations of their children and reinstate heavy-handed COVID-era policies.
The governor also has the power to fill vacancies on local elected bodies such as county commissions and school boards and can suspend and replace elected county and state officials for malfeasance, misfeasance, neglect of duty, incompetence, or commission of a felony.
For these and other reasons, the Citrus Crusader strongly recommends a vote for Republican BYRON DONALDS.
Control of the U.S. Senate also is up in the air, and Florida could help determine which party is in the majority next year. Republican Sen. Ashley Moody is facing Democrat Angie Nixon, a member of the far-left Democratic Socialists of America, which embraces Marxism and rejects the U.S. Constitution. Nixon has praised notorious Marxist cop killer Assanta Shakur as a "civil rights" leader, and her campaign staff is composed of radicals who have celebrated cities burning during the George Floyd riots, believe in defunding the police and abolishing ICE, support reparations, denounce Florida's restrictions on drag shows for minors, and oppose keeping transgender athletes out of female sports.
That's why the Crusader strongly recommends you vote for ASHLEY MOODY.
Republican James Uthmeier, who also is on the ballot this November, has been among the very best Attorney Generals in Florida's history. Shortly after taking office, Uthmeier established the Office of Parental Rights as the first of its kind in the nation to empower parents, protect children, and provide legal recourse when parental rights are infringed. Uthmeier has strongly defended the state's ban on drag shows for children and has sued the American Academy of Pediatrics and the World Professional Association for Transgender Health (WPATH) for deceiving the public on the safety of "gender transition" practices on confused minors. Uthmeier also recently sued Planned Parenthood for its false advertising about the abortion pill mifepristone, a deadly and dangerous drug that the abortion giant has been marketing as "safer than Tylenol," and he joined Texas in filing a federal lawsuit to stop the drug from being mailed to women in Florida without a doctor's visit. He has also sued Anthony Fauci for lying about COVID so he could destroy countless lives by ordering the closure of businesses, churches, schools and beaches across the country and forcing Americans to take the COVID shot even if they were already immune.
For these reasons, the Crusader strongly recommends you vote for JAMES UTHMEIER.
Blaise Ingoglia is a familiar name to Citrus County voters, as he was formerly our State Senator. Now running to retain his position as Chief Financial Officer, Ingoglia has earned a reputation for challenging overspending by local governments regardless of party. Since being appointed CFO, he has focused much of his time on urging voters to support Constitutional Amendment No. 3, which will increase the state's homestead exemption from the current $50,000 to $250,000 – radically reducing or completely eliminating property taxes for most Floridians. Ingoglia has exposed the vast waste in local government spending, which the amendment, if passed, will go a long way toward eliminating.
That's why the Crusader urges you to vote for BLAISE INGOGLIA as well as for CONSTITUTIONAL AMENDMENT NO. 3.
