Schlabach touts her liberal record

By John Labriola - County Commissioner Ruthie Schlabach, who is running for reelection as a Republican, bragged about her liberal voting record at a candidate forum Saturday hosted by the Democratic Women's Club of Citrus County.

To loud applause, Schlabach told the group she was proud of "standing up against library censorship," referring to her votes in 2022 to allow "LGBT Pride" propaganda displays in county libraries, which were canceled anyway by library administrators.

Schlabach also doubled down on her notorious praise of former Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg, a far-left supporter of abortion on demand and homosexual marriage, touting her as a role model for girls.

At a July 12, 2022 County Commission meeting, Schlabach complimented a leftist public speaker on her Ruth Bader Ginsburg T-shirt ("Love your T-shirt! I can't say enough nice things about Ruth!"). She also said Citrus County residents need to be "more accepting" of the transgender agenda in the public schools and encouraged her to "keep pushing because that's the only way we can make change." The election will take place on Aug. 20. Because both candidates are Republicans, it will be an open  primary in which Republican, Democrat and third-party voters can participate, unless a third-party candidate pays the $3,000 filing fee by noon on June 14.

Schlabach's opponent is Janet Barek, a conservative government watchdog who has opposed LGBT displays in the libraries and is pro-life.
