Hampton Hills hearing this Tuesday

The Citrus County Commission will meet this Tuesday at 5 p.m. to discuss Hampton Hills LLC’s request for a zoning change in Lecanto that would bring more residential development to the area.                                                     Hampton Hills wants to modify the zoning on 24 acres off Scarboro Avenue from medium density with mobile homes to a planned unit development with single-family homes. The change would allow for construction of up to eight single-family homes per acre. A county staff analysis states that the project is higher in density than an adjacent development, where lots average five acres in size, but the memo concludes the proposed development is compatible with the surrounding area because of a nearby subdivision that features smaller lot sizes.

Local residents disagree and are mobilizing against the project, saying it will bring overdevelpment to their neighborhood. The county’s Planning and Development Commission approved the rezoning request by a 4-3 vote last month, but the County Commission will have the final say.

The commission will meet at the Citrus County Courthouse, 110 N Apopka Ave., Inverness, FL 34450.
