Family-friendly story hour aims to take back libraries from woke left

By John Labriola - Local Christian parents will present a family-friendly story hour at the Lakes Region Library in Inverness this Saturday as part of the "See You at the Library" August 5 nationwide reading event organized by Brave Books and author/actor Kirk Cameron to take our public libraries back from the woke left.

Austin Primis, a doctor and father of three from Hernando, has booked the Inverness library's community room for an hour to pray, fellowship, and read one or more of Cameron's children's books to local families.

Primis said the Lord laid it on his heart to answer Cameron's national call to action after news that some libraries tried to keep Cameron out despite previously hosting "Drag Queen Story Hours."

"People's hearts are darkened," Primis said. "It's sad because we have a right to talk about the Lord and share these stories about character and integrity."

Primis and his wife and members of their church will share the message with children that "there's a Savior and they're created in the image of God."

The Citrus County Library System is not sponsoring the event. While Citrus libraries have not hosted Drag Queen Story Hours, they did celebrate "LGBT Pride Month" in June 2021 with rainbow-flag-draped displays featuring books and slogans promoting sodomy and gender dysphoria. The displays were discontinued following intense public backlash

The family-friendly "See You at the Library" event is free and will take place at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Aug. 5, at Lakes Region Library, 1511 Druid Rd., Inverness, FL 34452
