Hernando schools superintendent survives
By John Labriola - Parental rights advocates battled with LGBT activists during a contentious eight-hour-long Hernando County School Board meeting last week that ended with Superintendent John Stratton narrowly keeping his job.
More than 600 people packed the Hernando High School theater to debate Stratton's handling of a number of incidents that have enraged parents while motivating LGBT activists and the liberal teacher's union to rally to his defense.
School board member Shannon Rodriguez also was a major topic of discussion as residents alternately praised or condemned her for trying to crack down on LGBT indoctrination in the classroom. Rodriguez argued such ideological activism has gone unchecked under Stratton's watch – including a teacher's decision to show a homosexual-themed Disney movie to her fifth-grade class last month.
In the end, a vote to remove Stratton failed 2-3, with the board's three more liberal members standing by him.
