Russian money

By John Labriola - Liberal Citrus County Commissioner Holly Davis, who has been under fire for her recent vote for a $55,000 "Diversity, Equity and Inclusion" (DEI) marketing plan to attract more LGBT and less white, Christian, family-oriented tourism to Citrus County, is now implying that Russian or Chinese money is behind all the criticism she's been getting.

“I read in the Wall Street Journal that China just got busted for manipulating social media to cause dissension within the American public. We already know that Russia has been doing that. We are so focused on being angry at each other, and make no mistake, we have bad actors within us as well. I work in media. I hear a lot, 'Follow the money, follow the money.' Sure, I know some politicians are crooked. I can only speak for myself, but I would bet that none of us are,” Davis said. “But follow the money. Your eyes, your attention are worth a fortune to companies, media companies. So the more they can enrage you and make you turn around and go, 'That Commissioner Davis, she's insane!' and then just start telling all your friends and then it goes around and around and around, it's just really sad." See video HERE.

Davis’ bizarre rant, which borrowed a page from the Russian collusion hoax Democrats and their media allies used to smear President Donald Trump for years, came during last Tuesday’s Citrus County Commission meeting after a number of residents showed up to oppose any plan to remarket Citrus County as a queer, woke destination.

The county’s Tourism Development Council (TDC), which Davis chairs, unanimously endorsed the DEI marketing plan in January as a recommendation to the county commission, but the commission has not taken up the proposal. Davis now says she regrets her vote for the DEI plan and is claiming credit for removing it from a recent county commission agenda where it initially appeared. But she admitted "other commissioners wanted it pulled" from that agenda as well.

Davis has courted public outrage in the past by advocating for "LGBT Pride Month" propaganda displays targeting children in Citrus County libraries.

Despite the apparent demise of the $55,000 DEI plan, Citrus County has been promoting the county to LGBT travelers for years. According to public records obtained by the Citrus Crusader, the county has been paying OutCoast, a homosexual online travel magazine, $2,250 every six months to place ads on the publication's website encouraging "LGBTQ+" travelers to visit Crystal River and the surrounding area.

The nine-member TDC has been behind much of the years-long push to market Citrus County to specifically homosexual audiences. In 2016, the TDC approved spending $4,400 to place an ad in Visit Florida magazine featuring a homosexual couple.

Apart from Davis, the TDC is made up of several citizens with ties to the tourism industry, as well as two other local elected officials: Inverness City Councilwoman Jacquie Hepfer and Crystal River City Councilwoman Cindi Guy. Hepfer and Guy both voted for the $55,000 LGBT/DEI marketing plan. They can be contacted by email at jacquie.hepfer@inverness.gov and cguy@crystalriverfl.org

The TDC meets the second Wednesday of every month at 9 a.m. in the Lecanto Government Building, 3600 W. Sovereign Path, Lecanto, FL 34461. Its next meeting is scheduled for May 10. All meetings are open to the public.
