Marking 50 years since now-overturned Roe

By John Labriola - Citrus County pro-life leaders will host the annual Roe v. Wade Memorial Service in downtown Inverness on Monday to commemorate the lives of the more than 60 million babies aborted since the tragic Supreme Court ruling legalizing abortion 50 years ago this month, which was finally overturned last year in the celebrated Dobbs decision.

The service will take place on Jan. 23 beginning at noon in front of the Old Courthouse Heritage Museum at 1 Courthouse Square and will be followed by a solemn march around Courthouse Square led by the Knights of Columbus. Inverness Mayor Bob Plaisted will act as the master of ceremonies for the event, which also will feature a keynote speech by Kathy Filippelli of the Diocese of St. Petersburg and remarks by representatives of Citrus County Right to Life, the Citrus Pregnancy Center, and the Pregnancy & Family Life Center of Citrus County.

The event will conclude with a free showing at Valerie Theater of the movie "Mother Teresa: No Greater Love" sponsored by the Pregnancy & Family Life Center. Although the movie is free, seats must be reserved using this link.

Organizers of the memorial event note that although Roe v. Wade has been overturned, the fight to protect innocent unborn life is far from over, as abortion remains legal in most states, including Florida, where abortions are permitted until 15 weeks of pregnancy.
