Making our community a Sanctuary for the Unborn
By John Labriola - The overturning of Roe v. Wade was a watershed event in American history. Since the Supreme Court's landmark June ruling that returned the issue of abortion to the states, 13 states so far have outlawed abortion, saving the lives of countless innocent preborn children while costing the abortion industry millions in revenue.
The downside to this momentous victory for the right to life is that Florida is now the state with the most liberal abortion laws in the Southeastern United States, allowing abortion up to 15 weeks of pregnancy. This unfortunate fact is putting Florida in the crosshairs of the abortion industry, which sees Florida as a "haven" for abortion in the South. As a result, Planned Parenthood and others may try to make up for their huge revenue loss by opening new abortion centers here in Florida. But with places like Tampa, Orlando and Gainesville already saturated with abortion facilities, counties like ours that currently have no abortion clinics could become a target of the bloodthirsty industry.
That's why it's so important to act now to keep abortion clinics out of our community, and it's why making Inverness a Sanctuary for the Unborn is one of my top platform items in my campaign for Inverness City Council.
A number of cities around the U.S. have already proactively passed ordinances to ban abortion clinics within their boundaries with the help of the national Sanctuary Cities for the Unborn organization, which offers cities free logistical and legal support in crafting, enacting and defending such laws from challenge.
Government's most important function is to protect innocent life, so please join me in this vital cause, whether or not you live in Inverness, because this effort needs to encompass our entire county and region until abortion is some day outlawed statewide.
You can help by signing the online petition HERE to make the community you live in a Sanctuary for the Unborn. Please do so now, even if you have already signed the printed petition.
