Chronicle declared anti-Christian "Purveyor of Hate"
The Citrus County Chronicle has been declared a "Purveyor of Hate" for embracing an anti-Christian hate group to smear local conservatives.
The Chronicle has repeatedly cited the discredited Southern Poverty Law Center (SPLC) to attack local candidates who supposedly accepted the endorsement of MassResistance, an international pro-family organization that the SPLC has labeled a "hate group" simply because MassResistance opposes LGBT grooming of children. The candidates actually were endorsed by several different conservative organizations and publications including United Christians of Florida, the Citrus Eagle and the Citrus Crusader. Although it fully supports the laudable goals of MassResistance, the Crusader is an independent publication, not a "branch" of MassResistance as the Chronicle falsely claimed.
But by giving credence to the disgraced SPLC – which has been denounced as a far-left defamation racket that targets anyone it disagrees with – the Chronicle has exposed itself as an anti-Christian hate publication, prompting the Citrus County chapter of MassResistance last week to vote to declare the Chronicle a "Purveyor of Hate."
The SPLC has labeled such mainstream conservatives as Ben Carson, Laura Ingraham and Judge Jeanine Pirro as "extremists," and it has attached its “hate group" label to any organization that believes in traditional marriage or opposes abortion, open borders or radical Islam. In 2018, the SPLC was forced to pay a $3.3 million settlement to Muslim reformer Maajid Nawaz for labeling him an "anti-Muslim extremist" because he opposes Sharia law.
Among the well-respected pro-family Christian advocacy organizations the SPLC has placed on its "hate list" are Alliance Defending Freedom, the American Family Association, Liberty Counsel, the Pacific Justice Institute and the Family Research Council (FRC). In 2012, the SPLC's hate list inspired an act of terrorism when queer activist Floyd Corkins opened fire on the FRC's lobby in an attempt to murder staff. Corkins said he targeted the FRC because of the SPLC's hate designation, but the SPLC still refuses to retract its malicious smear despite the terror attack it inspired.
The SPLC is so discredited as an arbiter of "hate" that it has been condemned not only by conservative organizations including the Republican National Committee, but even on the editorial pages of liberal newspapers like the Washington Post, where the SPLC was described as "a caricature of itself, labeling virtually anyone who does not fall in line with its left-wing ideology an 'extremist' or 'hate group.'"
But the Citrus County Chronicle is obviously not a reputable newspaper. It is a hateful, amateurish joke of a left-wing rag – which is why residents should not vote for any candidate who has accepted its endorsement. In the Aug. 23 primary, we at the Citrus Crusader instead recommend that you vote for the following:
Congress - District 12: Jack Martin
Commissioner of Agriculture: James W. Shaw
State Representative - District 23: Ralph Massullo
County Commission - District 2: Diana Finegan
County Commission - District 4: Winn Webb
County Judge: Lisa Elaine Yeager
School Board Member: Mary C. Seader
