Commissioner Carnahan announces he will not seek reelection

By John Labriola -

Citrus County Commissioner Scott Carnahan last week announced he will not seek reelection to the county commission. Carnahan, whose term expires in November, said he will be pursing another opportunity and also wants to spend more time with his grandchildren.

His announcement came toward the end of a commission meeting during which Paul Reinhardt, a candidate for Florida House District 34, presented commissioners with evidence that he said proves Carnahan did not live in his district in 2018. A circuit court judge that year dismissed a lawsuit filed by Carnahan's then-opponent Scott Adams that challenged his residency.

Carnahan, who was first elected to the commission in 2014, said he promised his wife a long time ago that he would serve only two terms and had planned to make his formal announcement in February.

"Those who are scared that I'm going to be on the ballot, I'll go ahead and relieve them of that today," he said.

Carnahan, who has served twice as the commission's chairman, was one of two commissioners, along with Ron Kitchen, who voted earlier this month to keep LGBT political propaganda displays out of the public libraries, a proposal that was unfortunately shot down by the commission's three more liberal members.

Kitchen, whose term also expires this year, previously announced his intention not to seek reelection, highlighting the importance of ensuring both seats remain filled by social conservatives.

  1. I'm more than confident that a social conservative will replace both Carnahan and Kitchen especially if Carnahan's replacement will be appointed by Desantis. The Scott Adams case never addressed a Georgia Homesteaded property. I urge authors to be someone else instead of a newbie here a couple of months from South Florida. How can you possibly have any knowledge to write articles by carpetbagging yourself into Citrus fir a couple of months?

  2. we know the garbage we have-- but what will we get replacing them?
YEA, I know.. we will vote for them--BUT what will our choices be
another representative serving the public up on a silver plate or a politician serving the public?
and how do we know the difference?
