Annual Right to Life memorial service at Old Courthouse in Inverness draws big crowd

By John Labriola -

As hopes rise that the U.S. Supreme Court could overturn Roe v. Wade this year, a large crowd of local pro-lifers braved cold weather to commemorate the 60 million lives lost to abortion on the 49th anniversary of that tragic ruling in 1973 that legalized abortion on demand.

The annual memorial service took place on Saturday in front of the historic Old Courthouse in downtown Inverness.

"The most important thing everybody can do right now is pray to end abortion," said Kathleen Indelicato, president of Citrus County Right to Life. "We need to pray for our Supreme Court justices and legislators around the country, that they will protect the unborn and uphold the sanctity of life."

Keynote speaker Eddie Padgett, pastor of Joy and Praise Fellowship in Beverly Hills, shared pro-life passages from the Bible and discussed how a preborn child is fully formed at 2 months after conception, when many abortions occur.

"Fully functional human beings are being aborted and destroyed, and in some states even into the last trimester of their development," Pastor Padgett said. "Abortion is our present-day Holocaust and it needs to stop!"

Other speakers included the directors of the Citrus Pregnancy Center and the Pregnancy and Family Life Center of Citrus County, two local pregnancy centers that empower women with knowledge about alternatives to abortion.

The event culminated with a solemn march around the courthouse square to commemorate all the victims of abortion.
